It's A Date!
Apparently, we missed the boat. The hot wedding date this year isn't April 14th. According to this newspaper article, it's 07-07-07.
Cory and I had to put a lot of thought into our wedding date. See, I'm not allowed to take time off in February, May, July, or November, because those are television sweeps months. In addition to that, I really can't take a weekend off in September or October (high school football), and while I could take a weekend off during March (spring training), I shouldn't take any prolonged time off. It costs too much to travel here in December and January. Oh, and it's hotter than hell here in June and August (not to mention it's also hurricane season), so those months were out of the question, too.
So April it was.
I wanted April 7th. That's the weekend of the Masters' Golf Tournament, so the weekend shift people at my station would have the afternoon off (CBS always airs the Masters, so we never have early newscasts). Unfortunately, Easter is April 8th, and Cory thought that would be really inconvenient for people.
May Sweeps actually begins the last week of April. So I'm not allowed to take April 28th (or any of the surrounding days) off. So, out of 52 possible Saturdays, that narrowed it down to exactly two: April 14th or 21st.
I know, April 14th isn't convenient for everyone. Cory has an aunt who's an accountant. One of my mom's friends is married to an accountant. And April 14th is a pretty busy day for them. And yes, we'll have to make sure we do our taxes early that year.
We picked the 14th because of a few factors. Since it's the week after Easter, it's a little easier for people to come visit. One of my bridesmaids, Anne, is a teacher, and she gets the week after Easter off as "spring break." Cory liked the date because it's his cousin Gavin's birthday (he's one of the groomsmen). It's also his friend Travis' birthday, so he figures he'll never forget our anniversary.
Like I'd ever let him forget if there was the potential for gifts!
